10 Tips Big $aving $

Here are 10 big saving tips that help you save more than a few bucks here and a few bucks there.

$ Tip 1. If you’ve been putting aside $500 a month for your car loan, don’t stop once the car loan has been fully paid. Instead of sending the cheque to the lender, deposit the same sum into your savings account. Now you can start building up your assets.

$ Tip 2. Use cash or debit card for everyday items and limit credit card usage for large items only.

$ Tip 3. Pay off your bills as soon as you get them, and if you can’t pay the entire balance, pay more than the minimum amount due.

$ Tip 4. Sign up for member cards. Many entitle cardholders to special discounts and offers.

$ Tip 5. Note every dollar you spend – whether it’s a candy bar or a new purse – and see if there are areas where you can save more.

$ Tip 6. If you have easy access to public transportation, try using it. It’s less expensive and usually less stressful than driving. Check LRT and bus routes and compare the costs with driving a car.

$ Tip 7. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy a good weekend. Do your research and look for off-peak travel dates and destinations. Take advantages of weekend or mid-week deals.

$ Tip 8. If you are going to the movies after a full meal, forget about the concession stand.

$ Tip 9. The next time you see something you want but didn’t plan on buying, ask yourself if you really need it. It you don’t, let it go.

$ Tip 10. Consider asking for a transfer and moving to a smaller town if you find that living in the city is becoming just too expensive.

But remember, whatever extra cash you have at the end of the month – save it !
