Hubby and I were in the city for a few days. We didn’t spend much during this trip to the city because we stayed at my aunt’s house and had free meals most of the time.

We were doing our best not to spend unnecessarily as we needed the money to pay off some of the debt.

I am hoping that I can make more money online through affiliate products. Writing reviews for clinical laboratory service and other services does help in making money online, but I need more passive income.

Follow The 10 Rules On Responsible Blogging April 28, 2007

This post is written from the view point of a barely 4-month-old blogger who is loaded with $60,000 credit card debts.

I started off blogging due to the reason that I want to make money online. I joined numerous affiliate programmes and later, I channeled all my energy into writing sponsored reviews and getting paid for blogging.

After one paid post after another paid post, I was lost temporarily. Honestly speaking, I was too indulged in submitting my paid posts.

Thanks to some kind-hearted bloggers who took their precious time off to point out to me that I should stay clear and cool for a while. They found that I have derailed from producing good posts and articles. So, I took heed of their advice and started spending more time reading other bloggers’ authority and content rich articles.

Yesterday, I hanged out at SponsoredReviews.com ~ a paid post company that will only buy reviews from bloggers who write honest reviews about advertisers’ products and services. I caught sight of their article ~ 10 Rules on Responsible Blogging . Ooops ! It looks like I was destined to read this article at this time. Another reminder for me !

I think this article should be read by all new bloggers who have just joined the blogosphere. These 10 rules are so related to us, new bloggers.

How do we, (new) bloggers, maintain the credibility of our blogs ? Should there be “Code of Conduct” as proposed by Tim O’Reilly ? Or 10 Rules on Responsible Blogging by Daniel Scocco ?

I agree with Daniel that this set of rules should serve as a self-regulating mechanism.Integrity and ethics are values that can not be forced into someone’s work.

This article made me ask myself a few questions:

1. Do I want to be a credible and professional blogger helping lots of readers or crappy blogger just posting unreliable information that misinform people ? So, check the facts even if it consumes a bit of my time.

2. Think twice before I hit the “publish” button. Will what I write cause damage to others’ reputation or images ?

3. Always reference sources. Make myself in other’s shoe. How do I feel if other does the same to me ? Someone uses my information without putting a link to my website.

4. Am I using technique like “link cloaking” so that readers are not able to identify affiliate links ? I have to admit that I do so as I would like to increase my revenues . I should try to make the affiliate links transparent in future.

Focus on creating value for the reader and you will not even need to hide your affiliate links; if people believe in your work they will certainly accept your recommendations for products.

5. Am I finding shortcuts ? Guess what, there are no shortcuts. These are considered ‘blackhat” methods.

Below is the list of 10 Rules on Responsible Blogging:

1. Check your facts

2. Respect Copyright Law

3. Consider the implications

4. Control the comments

5. Give credit where credit is due

6. Disclose professional relationships

7. Disclose sponsored posts

8. Be transparent with affiliate links

9. Respect Tax Law

10. Avoid “blackhat” methods

After some thoughts, I realize that if I want to make my blog profitable, I have to work hard first. It will pay off sooner or later.
